From Ms Phillipa Erasmus:
In an attempt to sharpen the 8 learners’ spelling (both English and Afrikaans) and mental mathematics abilities, we will be embarking on a testing programme during registration periods. What this entails is the following:
1: Each grade 8 learner will be issued with an exercise book to be used for this purpose. Please could these be kept in the register classroom.
2: The SEC members will administer the tests.
3: Marking will be done on a peer marking basis, supervised by the SEC.
4: The spelling will take place on a Monday (starting on Monday 8 February). They will be tested from a list of words which they will be given to learn from. There will be 10 English and 10 Afrikaans words each day. This will be done by means of the SEC member reading the word and the learners writing their answer. No repetition will take place. Therefore the test itself should take a maximum of 5 – 8 mins for the spelling and marking. This register period is 20 minutes long, so you are left time for your normal register activities.
5: The maths will take place on Thursday morning and the same procedure will be followed.
6: Marks will be recorded.
There is no need for reguster teacher staff involvement in this process apart from keeping the books.

From Ms Michelle Taylor:
Just a reminder of our values theme for the year is the 2010 soccer theme “Values for Victory!” The Value for Jan and Feb. is Responsibility with a focus on “ Staying onside.”
